Class Description

Learn how to use your own sewing machine as you make small sewn projects at home. Formal instruction includes threading, operating, and troubleshooting your sewing machine. Create samples of stitches, hems, and seams. During this online class, you will learn how to sew two styles of face masks as you master your machine.

Student Information

Students will need:

  • Sewing machine required
  • Sewing machine manual, or downloaded manual, if possible
  • Black or dark thread, example
  • Some fabric to practice sewing, 100% quilting cotton or muslin fabric is best, example
  • Some sewing pins
  • Extra sewing machine needles regular point, example (check to see what kind your machine needs)
  • Extra bobbins, example (check to see what kind your machine needs)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler, example, or similar 
  • Tailors chalk example, or water soluble fabric pencil example
  • 1/2 yard 100% cotton fabric for face mask style A
  • Matching thread
  • 1/2 yard 100% cotton fabric for face mask style B
  • Matching thread

 

You will be emailed Zoom meeting instructions, including a unique URL and meeting code to join the class at least 1 day before the start of the class. If you do not receive an email from your instructor or registered within 24 hours of the first scheduled class, please contact the front desk ASAP.

Class cancellations can happen if enrollment minimums are not met 2 days prior to the first class. If your class is canceled, you will be contacted via phone or email.

If your class comes with a required or optional kit:  All kits will be available for contactless pick-up the weekend prior to the session's start date, Thursday, September 10 (Session I) & Thursday, October 15 (Session II), between 12-3 pm.
