Class Description

Learn to maximize your use of color to add vibrancy and depth to your work. We will focus on complementary colors, warm versus cool color temperature, color mixing, and blending. Exercises will take place in pastel with various subject matters, and discussions and demonstrations will include both wet and dry media. Come prepared for the first class with pastel paper and a set of nupastels (or equivalent). Prerequisite: First-Time Drawing, First-Time Painting, Beginning Drawing or equivalent experience

Suggested Supply List

  • A small set of chalk pastels (Prismacolor NuPastels, a box of 12 or 24 is fine. Additionally, we will discuss a few open stock items you may want to add) 
  • Vine charcoal (optional) 
  • Kneaded eraser (optional) 
  • A few sheets of medium or large drawing paper suitable for use with pastel - ideally in mid-toned colors (If you are unsure what type, you do not need to have specific paper on the first day (just have something suitable for dry media). If you do want to pre-purchase mid-toned paper, a Canson Mi Tientes Pastel pad or open stock paper (or equivalent) is fine.)

 

You will be emailed Zoom meeting instructions, including a unique URL and meeting code to join the class at least 1 day before the start of the class. If you do not receive an email from your instructor or registered within 24 hours of the first scheduled class, please contact the front desk ASAP.

Class cancellations can happen if enrollment minimums are not met 2 days prior to the first class. If your class is canceled, you will be contacted via phone or email.

If your class comes with a required or optional kit:  All kits will be available for contactless pick-up the weekend prior to the session's start date, Thursday, September 10 (Session I) & Thursday, October 15 (Session II), between 12-3 pm.
