Class Description

Take your garment making skills to the next level. Our Teaching Artist will show you the tricks of the trade as you make samples of specialty stitches, seam finishings, facings and more. Use your new skills as you make a garment from a pattern of your choice. Finish with a skillfully made article of clothing that you will be proud to wear. Prerequisite: Two department sewing classes or equivalent experience

Student Information

Supplies Students will need:

  • A commercial garment pattern, Simplicity, Butterick, McCall’s, Vogue offer a range of patterns from easy to advanced skill level. Choose a pattern that is within your skill level.

OR a custom fit pattern from Fashion I: Pattern Alterations

  • A table or work space to spread out
  • Tailors chalk, disappearing marker or fabric pencil
  • Sewing pins 
  • Thread
  • Seam ripper
  • Fabric scissors
  • Paper scissors
  • A few yards of muslin or mock up fabric that is similar to what your pattern calls for
  • Fabric and notions for your final garment
  • Sewing machine 
  • Measuring tape
  • Ruler, example, or similar
  • Curve ruler, example (optional)

 

This interactive online class is presented via Zoom. Please download Zoom (www.zoom.us), and register your email address prior to your first class.

You will be emailed Zoom meeting instructions, including a unique URL and meeting code to join the class at least 1 day before the start of the class. If you do not receive an email from your instructor or registered within 24 hours of the first scheduled class, please contact the front desk ASAP by responding to this email.

Class cancellations can happen if enrollment minimums are not met 2 days prior to the first class. If your class is canceled, you will be contacted via phone or email.

If your class comes with a required or optional kit:  All kits will be available for contactless pick-up the week prior to the start date.
