Where can I park?

Lillstreet does not have a parking lot but there is street parking all around the Art Center. The best times of day to find parking are during evenings and weekends, but if you are here during the day your best option in usually to look south of Montrose on either side of Ravenswood.

Once I submit my online registration, does my registration and payment go through immediately?

Yes, we use a secure online processing system so that your credit card does get charged automatically for the total amount of the purchases in your shopping cart.

What do I need to bring to class? Are there materials I need to buy ahead of time?

Any materials you would need to bring to the first class would be specified in the class description and in the general department tips on what to wear and bring (both online and in the print catalog). If the class does not specify anything to bring, it means that materials will be provided for the first class and students will be given a list of materials they need to purchase. In any department, you should come to class in old clothes or with an apron, because you may get messy!

Can I make up a class?

You are welcome to make up any missed classes during the session you are enrolled in, as long as you are in a class with multiple sections, or to come in during open studio time to do extra work. Just come to another section of your same class and let the teacher know that you are making up the class.

I will be out of town for part of the class, can I just pay for the sessions I'm attending?

No, unfortunately we only offer classes at the full price, not by the class. Most of our students do go out of town or miss classes for one reason or another and you are welcome to make up any missed classes during the session you are enrolled in, as long as you are in a class with multiple sections, or to come in during open studio time to do extra work. If you are going to miss several class sessions, you may want to consider either signing up for a shorter class or waiting until the next term to take a class.

What if I need to drop out of a class?

As long as you notify the Lillstreet office staff one full week before the first class meeting, you can get a refund, minus a $40 processing fee. Not attending class does not constitute an official drop out. After this date, no refunds are available but you may be able to get a full or partial store credit towards another session. We can only refund you if you drop out due to a documented medical emergency that prevents you from attending several class sessions.

If I get on a waitlist, should I just come to the first class?

A Lillstreet staff member will call to notify you if a spot opens up in a class and you are next on the waitlist. At that time, you will have 24 hours to sign up or we will offer the space to the next person on the waitlist. If you do not hear from us, unfortunately that means that nobody dropped out of the class and you should either sign up for an alternate class or wait until the next session and register early!

Can't you just squeeze me into a full class?

Class limits are set for the benefit of all students, if classes are too crowded there is not enough work space, tools or individual instruction, so we do need to adhere to class maximums. Lillstreet does often open additional sections of popular classes so please get on the class waitlist if it is full. Be sure to sign up early to avoid classes being full!

Why does Lillstreet cancel classes?

We find it just as frustrating as you do to cancel classes and do everything we can to make classes run. We are constantly working to promote our classes and reach out to new students while retaining our current students. However, consistently running classes with 4 or less people would quickly put the Art Center out of business because we would lose money, so we do need to cancel classes if enrollment is low.

Can I just come in and use the studios without signing up for a class?

In the Painting and Textiles departments you may sign up for open studio by the week only after you have taken a 10 week class. In other departments we only offer open studio by the week to students who have enrolled during the previous semester during our interim months in December and June. Open studio time is included with every class so we encourage you to sign up!

In First-Time Artist classes, is the second session a continuation of the first session?

No, the second session is exactly the same as the first session, we just call them session 1 and session 2 to make our records clearer. You can take either one, or both if you want more work time and experience.

Childrens Program & Camps

My child is below the age limit for a class. Can he or she get in?

Age limits are set based on years of teaching experience and to make sure that all class participants have the best possible experience, including your child. We are very strict about age limits because if children are too young for a class they often do not enjoy it. This is especially true for camps because it is a long day and children get too tired if they are under the age limit.
