Price: LAC Members $20.00 / Non-Members $20.00
In our first Shop Talk, we’ll celebrate Black History Month and explore the history of a truly American craft: face jugs. We’ll learn about this art, its African and Southern American elements, and get our hands dirty. All donations from will benefit Chicago Vocational Career Academy. Beginning with a presentation of the history of face jugs, Charity White will discuss historical and cultural significance of these clay pots. Inspired by that information, participants will construct a basic terra cotta slab cup and add a face to that cup. Charity, a master of figurative sculpture, will demonstrate how to build basic facial features and how to attach them. Cups will then be decorated with colors, glazed and fired for you to pick up in two weeks.
